MHRA is an acronym for the
Multi-Hull Racing Association.
MHRA hosts events in northern
California, northwestern Nevada, and southern Oregon. All multihulls are welcome at MHRA regattas,
regardless of brand-name, color,or
creed. Separate starts are provided for classes (five boats or more) and mixed multihulls use Portsmouth ratings.

Firecracker Regatta

Description

The Firecracker Regatta is put on by the Klamath Yacht Club every year on or about July 4. This regatta has been an MHRA points event since 2005. The Klamath Yacht Club has a full-service bar right on the water, and is very beachcat friendly. Camping is permitted on the yacht club lawn during this regatta (just make sure they turn off the sprinklers).

Date

July 3-4, 2010. .This regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, with US Sailing Prescriptions, except as may be altered by class rules or as directed by the Sailing Instructions.

  • *Handicapping will be done with reference to P.H.R.F. Northwest and Portsmouth systems.
  • *Five boats or more in a class may be scored as a fleet.
  • *Five races are scheduled, however as few as three races may be used to score this regatta. There’ll be no throw-outs.
  • *Registration 3:00- 6:00pm, July 2 and 7:30- 8:45am, July 3

  • *Skippers’ Meeting 9:00am Saturday then “On-Call Racing”
  • *”On-Call Racing” 9:00am Sunday
  • *Sailing Instructions and course map available July 2
  • *Trophies 1st place (3 boats); 1st/2nd place (4 boats); 1st/2nd/3rd place (5+ boats) per class.

Location

Klamath Lake, Klamath Falls, Oregon--In a beautiful mountain setting, the nearby low hillsides channel the winds for fairly steady sailing conditions most of the time. Average wind speeds of 8 to 15 knots make the southern end of Klamath Lake a great place to race.
