Chico Classic

The Chico Cats chapter of MHRA hosts the Chico Classic Regatta, typically in late April or early May. This is historically one of the best attended regattas of the MHRA season. The regatta takes place on Black Butte Lake, an Army Corps of Engineers reservoir west of Orland, Ca. The racing occurs under either northerlies or southerlies. A long windward/leeward leg is set, and a tight reaching leg provides a challenge at the north end of the lake. Conditions are unpredictable in the late spring but generally fall in the 5-15 knot range. Portsmouth ratings will be used for mixed fleets. If a class has five boats they may be given their own start and scored separately.

Chico Cats no longer reserves the group campground for this event; you should either reserve an individual campsite at the Buckhorn Campground or hotel room in Orland. Launching is done directly from the beach. Unless the lake is totally full, cars can be driven to the water's edge. The club dinner will be held at Saturday 6:30 pm and will be followed by a raffle. Breakfast will be at 8:30 on Sunday.
