2010 Chico Classic Results Photo GalleryThe Chico Classic was held at Black Butte Lake on May 1-2. Three races were completed on Saturday under steady northerly winds of 13-18 knot winds. Saturday was a fabulous day of sailing and ended with the wind collapsing as the last boat finished. The group dinner was held on a calm and warm night. Sunday morning was cold and the regatta breakfast quite welcome.By 8:30 northerly 18 knot winds gusting to the low 20s filled in very early and included brutal 20-40 degree shifts. The race committee evaluated the poor conditions and forecast for increased wind to the mid-20s and abandoned Sunday's races. Although there is always grumbling about cancelled races, most agreed that conditions were miserable at best and that the committee boat make a wise decision.Race results and regatta photos have been posted. Division I was taken by Peter Schmalzer and Travis Thompson on the spinnaker-equipped 5.8. A classic Prindle 16 rig with Dan Nicholson at the helm won Division II. Eric, on the A-Cat, astounded everyone with his ability to go to weather. If he had the right mainsail for his weight, his enhanced downwind performance might put him at the top of the heap. Jay was in his element in the heavy air had a significant speed edge over Pam. Several new sailors came and there was great enthusiasm for an early regatta. Larry and Erin did a fabulous job on the committee boat and got the group off the beach by beginning the new starting sequence one minute after the last boat crossed the line!. Finally, thanks to Mark Forwalter for putting all of this together. It is a labor of love that we all benefit from. 1 Division
